BY MATEO MORENO

BUFFALOED, the new riotous comedy starting Zoey Deuth and directed by Tanya Wexler, is poised to make Deuth a true break out star and Wexler the next in-demand comedy director. It is truly a laugh out loud, foul-mouthed comedy, with Deuth striking the screen with more charisma in this one film than most actors have in their entire career. I honestly haven’t enjoyed myself this much at “Tribeca Film Festival” in some time.

Peg Dahl (Deuth) is an ex-con who moves back in with her Mother (Judy Greer) when she’s released and needs employment. Her biggest skill set are the ones that landed her in jail in the first place, so her options look limited. That is, until a debt collector hounds her for tuition money that she can’t pay back. During the call, she ends up haggling her way to a meeting with the debt collector and then joins their team, quickly climbing her way to the top. The boss of the agency is a slime ball named Wizz (a hilarious Jai Courtney) who Peg quickly surpasses and decides to branch out and start her own agency, making an instant enemy out of Wizz. And from there, the competition is on, at lightning speed.

Buffaloed is a lightning fast film, barely ever stopping for a breath, and you happily fly along with it. Deutch leads the pack of fantastic actors on screen with ease, and there’s not a wasted moment. Along for the ride is a very game Judy Greer, her dopy but lovable brother Noah Reid, and a sharp Jermaine Flower as her possible love interest who also put her in jail. Wexler also paces the film perfectly, and with her troupe of actors sets the stage for one of the most exciting comedies of the year. Don’t miss out on this gem.
